Central Mexico
January 25th to February 1st & February 15th to February 21st
Central Mexico: butterflies, off-road, and hot springs trip 8 nights.
Saturday Day 1 – no riding You arrive in CDMX and make your way to our hotel near the pyramids at Teotihuacan. Plan to make it to the hotel area by early afternoon, 6pm at the latest. The flight and the 45-minute uber or cab ride are the last things you need to organize for the next week. Your first night hotel and dinner are included with your trip. If you get in early on Friday, we recommend dropping your gear at the hotel and then spending time at the pyramid of the snake, moon, and sun across the street. Come back to our hotel for dinner and our meet and our kick-off party. You will get to meet everyone and your bikes!
Sunday Day 2 – 3.75 hours riding We'll have breakfast while we watch the hot air balloons sail over the pyramids of Teotihuacan, then start riding! We will make our way to the mountain town of Angangueo in the heart of the butterfly sanctuary. We will stop along the way for photo ops, and the all-important lunch and pee breaks. Our chase truck will carry your luggage, so we will not have to worry about loading up the bikes so much. Angangueo is quite a village, and you’ll have a chance to walk around in the evening.
Monday Day 3 – 3 hours riding It will be chilly overnight so warm up with a cup of coffee or hot chocolate at breakfast, then we will head up into the mountains. Strech your legs or rent a horse at our first stop. We will be at elevation, and you can walk for a couple of miles or join me on a horse as we make our way up into the mountain valley to watch the sun warm up the millions of monarch butterflies as they take flight. Horses are optional, but fun. After that we will make our way north to Bernal for the night – this is an expat haven and offers many different options for dinner or drinks. We also have arranged a night time utv ride for anyone who wants to join us.
Tuesday Day 4 – 2.5 hours riding Just a reminder we will always arrange breakfast every day and it is included in the trip. Breakfast is also our time to talk about the day’s events, have a riding safety meeting, and go over any tips for riding. After Breakfast we will make our way north into the mountains of the Sierra Gorda. Congratulations, you will have ridden motorcycles through four Mexican States! Our destination of the day is an old mining town called Jalpan de Serra. Remember, this is high-desert, and we may ride through clouds as we climb, it will be chilly at night and hot in the daytime. Sleep tight.
Wednesday Day 5 – 3.5 hours/optional half day dirt bike ride This is a choose your adventure day. Want to chill out in one of Mexico’s Magical Towns, or go for an off-road adventure? We have partnered with a French Dakar motorcycle racer and dirt bike tour operator, Francois. He will offer to take you on his dirt bikes single track riding into the heart of Sierra Gorda. Imagine slot canyons, small river crossings, mountain passes on dirt bikes. Or, if you want to chill at El Geiser steam vent hot springs in town that's ok too, there’s plenty for everyone here. This is your trip, choose your adventure. We’ll spend the night in Tecozautla.
Thursday Day 6 – 2.25 hours riding This will be a short ride, but we have so many beautiful places to stop and take breaks. There will be lots of twisty roads and high desert vistas to take in as we make our way to Grutas Tolantongo. The payoff is getting to relax in the hot spring river before dinner and a great night’s sleep listening to the sound of water flowing all night long.
Friday Day 7 – no riding Chill day. We will not be riding today. It is all about rest and relaxation. Hot springs, restaurants, bars, snacks, and I have a spot I want to show you. Across the river is a little spot that will blow your mind. The mountain side waterfall opens to a cave with 110-degree water falling from the ceiling. The river is so blue it matches the sky. There are options for massages and such too. Grutas Tolantongo is an incredibly special place whether you want a michelada or a nap LOL.
Saturday Day 8 – 4 hours riding After breakfast we are going to insist you leave paradise and go for our last day of riding. Mexico City is about 4 hours away and is our last stop on this tour. We will return the bikes early afternoon and spend the night in North America's largest city. We have your accommodation covered for the night and have several suggestions on how to celebrate your week of adventure. It is Mexico City, so incredible dining is endless, but if you are looking for true local color, I would suggest a Lucha Libre masked wrestling match. When you wake up on Sunday morning you will be on your own. Stay in Mexico, go home, come with us on another trip, but this leg of your voyage will have come to a memorable end.
